2021 Winter Storm URI-Note from our Fire Chief

NOTE from our Fire Chief—Storm Uri

Your Morgan's Point Resort Firefighters answered the call throughout the winter storm that besieged our community for nearly ten days. The Emergency Operations Center was staffed for 220 continuous hours while Fire crews worked tirelessly alongside our City of Morgan’s Point Resort Maintenance, Police and Utilities colleagues to anticipate, prepare for, and respond to the havoc this storm would bring.

Thousands of cups of coffee were consumed and many meals shared at our firehouse table. We were fortunate to have heat when so many did not, though even the Public Safety Center was not immune to broken water pipes and elusive internet. We found comfort in each other when the hours stretched into days. When several feet of snow and miles of icy streets stood between our patients and the hospital, we transported them in 4-wheel drive Battalions and Brush Trucks. We saw the strength and resilience of those we serve under the most adverse of conditions.

It was an extraordinary time of both suffering and hope; a time we are glad to put behind us. While the dangers of the storm itself have passed, the recovery has only just begun. For your Fire Department and City services it is a time of self-appraisal and planning for the future.

The Morgan's Point Resort Fire Department is an organization of many, bound by a singular purpose- to protect lives and property.
